Tips to build a long-term relationship with your work

In today’s modern and connected world, young professionals often feel like they aren’t achieving enough or living up to their full professional potential, and, due to FOMO – or fear of missing out, end up jumping from job to job, company to company.

Be it better pay, benefits, location, or just the need to periodically start over, the habit of moving on after every year or two is more harmful to their careers than they think, as says Dragos Chioran, VP Marketing and Design for Syneto.

Obviously, if you hate your job, look for something else, but if that’s not the case and you’re just going through a rough period, Chioran recommends just sticking with it. At the end of the day, you can only make a true impact within a team or company if you stick around for long enough.

Patience is Key

So the first thing we recommend if you’d like to build a long-term fruitful relationship with your work is patience. With the company, your co-workers, clients, and yourself; listen to what others have to say and understand that your way is not always the best way and keep going. Let others inspire you.

Ignorance is Not Bliss

The next thing is to keep yourself educated. Read a lot, about a lot of different topics. Once you’ve been working with the same team for a while, you’ll have seen what works and what doesn’t, and opportunities to innovate will present themselves. Be courageous and make risky suggestions. Nothing is as gratifying in a professional perspective as seeing something you created or helped build be successful.

Don't Worry, Be Happy

Lastly, be passionate. If you truly enjoy what you do, let it become a part of who you are. Live and breathe it every day and it will help you make a lasting impact.
